Different things to learn about Helen Keller's life By Cara

Welcome!

Here you will learn about Helen Keller. She is a very unique woman! She over came obstacles to live a successful life and be an inspiration to others.  I hope you find this web site interesting and helpful!

The picture on the right is a picture of Helen Keller when she was a little girl.I found it on the Helen Keller Foundation site so you may want to check that out. I will include this on links.

By the age of 19 months she was already saying a few words and she caught a horrible fever that almost caused her to die but she lived.  She turned blind and deaf.

They hired a lady named Anne Sullivan who was blind at the age of 5.  She was thrown in a poor house when her family broke up, but she was lucky enough to go to Perkins School for the Blind in Bosten.  She earned the nickname "Spitfire" because she was rude and bad.  After several years and 2 successful operations she got her sight back and she probably knew what Helen Keller felt like!

If Helen Keller didn't get what she wanted she would throw tantrums until her family gave into her. Helen Keller would feel peoples hands to see what they were trying to tell her. Anne Sullivan tought Helen the manual alphabet which is a hand sign for each letter..
